Having grown up in a family of veterinarians, it was only natural that Dr. Brian decided to pursue a career as a veterinarian.
Dr. Brian Gleaves grew up in a small town outside of Nashville, Tennessee where his father and uncle own their own veterinary practice. He spent a large portion of his childhood at their hospital playing with the animals who came in and raiding the breakroom snack table. He began to fall in love with veterinary medicine while working at his dad’s practice during his high school years. Specifically, he remembers loving the bond that forms between the veterinarians and the clients while they work together to care for their pets.
This burgeoning interest took Dr. Brian to The University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and then, subsequently, his DVM at The University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Brian was one of a few students at The University of Tennessee to complete a 3+1 program, earning him his undergraduate BS degree in three years and allowing him to apply to Veterinary school a year early. During his undergraduate years, he served as President of the Pre-Veterinary Association. Then, while in veterinary school, he served as Vice-President for his class council and President of UT’s Veterinary Business Management Association. Alongside these responsibilities he also found time to work as part of the Small Animal Surgical Emergency Team, stay an active member in the schools Surgery Club, and spend some quality ball-tossing time with his dog.
The dream, throughout vet school for Dr. Brian and his wife, Lauren, has always been to move to the mountains. As an avid snowboarder, a winter fanatic, and an owner of a dog with a lot of fur, they couldn’t have asked for a better environment than Colorado’s dry and snowy landscape. After touring across much of the state in search for the place they would call home, Dr. Brian and his wife settled on the town of Evergreen and absolutely love it here. Together with their golden retriever, Fred, and their two felines Scarlett and Ricotta, their family has settled into Evergreen quite nicely!
