Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine covers therapy that uses a pet’s own ability to heal itself.  Regenerative medicine gives us the opportunity to provide a natural alternative to prescription medications e.g. NSAIDs that can have long term side effects. At Family Veterinary Hospital we utilize both Stem Cell and PRP Therapy and are always happy to discuss the results that we see with these treatments.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

The concentrated platelets found in PRP contain mass quantities of bio-active proteins, including growth factors and signaling proteins that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These bio-active proteins can initiate tissue healing and reduce inflammation.

PRP can be used to aid in the treatment of many ailments such as:

• Arthritis
• Hip dysplasia
• Cranial Cruciate ligament (ACL) injury
• Healing from surgery
• Soft Tissue injuries
• Wound healing

Stem Cell

This ability arises from repairing cells that are found throughout our body. In the case of injury or disease repair cells are mobilized to damaged areas to attempt to fix the problem.

Due to injury and/or age sometimes our own repair abilities can use a jump-start. By using the pet’s own repair cells isolated from fat tissue in the body, this repair ability can be applied to areas of need.

In addition to the same treatment indications for PRP, stem cells are used to treat:

• Degenerative myelopathy
